Supplementing Using OneClick Code

OneClick Code Roof Strategies
August 1, 2021 at 3:00 p.m.

By OneClick Code.

Adam Bensman from The Roof Strategist interviews OneClick Code founder Garrett Kurtt about supplementing.

In a recent video, Adam Bensman and Garrett Kurtt discuss overcoming the common fears people have when it comes to supplementing, answering questions like, “Do I need Xactimate to supplement?” and “Can I get "blacklisted" for supplementing?” Plus, they teach you a fast, easy and reliable strategy to supplement jobs straight from your phone without having to use Xactimate.

Can you get blacklisted?

Garrett tells Adam that you can get “somewhat blacklisted,” or more accurately, “tagged” if you are a contractor or company that is not necessarily presenting themselves in a professional manner. “Overall, I don't think that there is actually a blacklist that exists across all of a company,” says Garrett.

“I think people get concerned about is asking for things that aren't due,” adds Adam. “If you go crazy over the top and submit a supplement to that ends up boosting your per square price because you added all these odds and ends, it isn’t going to fly with the insurance company.”

Do your need Xactimate for supplementing?

Furthermore, Garrett adds, “I don't think you need exactly to supplement with Xactimate. It will help, but it’s just an agreed upon method to identify certain line items and pricing associated those line items. I do not think it's required, an excel spreadsheet can work just effectively.” He gives the example, “When I first started supplementing, the easiest way I did it was to create an email and put in a bullet point 'add drip edge on rake 165 linear feet,’ don't put a price, just put what I want and then alright say update quantity of pipe jacks... they usually will take that and then what they'll do is they will update their estimate and send it right back to you saying here's the revisions based on my ability to approve what you requested.”

Building a process to supplement

With two major questions out of the way, the two men move on to talk about how to stay above board with a supplement. “I think it's creating consistency, but not consistency of doing the wrong thing. So creating a process to which you're going to estimate,” says Garrett. “So, on every single job we are going to make a rule that if the house was built before 1965, we're going to check for decking and we're going to request that can be approved prior to the roof starting, that could be a process.”

Watch the entire video to learn more on supplementing and how to create a fast, easy and reliable strategy to supplement jobs.
