Western Colloid is Committed to FM Approvals

FM 4470 Class 1 approvals employ some of the toughest test methods in the roofing industry and Western Colloid invests each year in maintaining those FM approvals.

Roofing systems are a building’s first line of defense against the elements and must be able to protect a structure from wind, hail, rain, snow and extreme temperatures. Commercial buildings keep growing in size and many feature roofs that are hundreds of thousands of square feet in size.

A roofing system failure on a commercial building can result in devastating losses for a business with the contents of the building being exposed to moisture and other damaging conditions. Western Colloid is committed to manufacturing roofing systems that will protect the building and everything inside. They ensure that their products are up for the job by securing FM Approvals.

FM Approvals is a third-party global testing laboratory and certification agency that tests and certifies products and services that meet rigorous property loss prevention standards for use in commercial and industrial facilities. FM Approvals is the only organization in the world that tests only complete roofing assemblies, subjecting them to tests that simulate multiple real-world perils such as fire above and below the deck, wind uplift, hail, weathering, water leakage, foot traffic and the corrosion of metal parts.

Western Colloid has multiple FM global approvals over BUR, Gravel, Modified Bitumen, and multiple Single Ply membranes and is committed to maintaining the approvals. The FM 4470 Class 1 approvals employ some of the toughest test methods in the roofing industry. It’s also not just a one-time process. In addition to testing, FM performs ongoing examinations of the manufacturing facilities and audits the quality control processes to ensure Western Colloid’s ongoing ability to continue to produce the roofing systems with the same performance and consistency year after year. At its manufacturing facilities Western Colloid keeps extensive records and adheres to the most stringent quality control.

Continued approval is based on:

  • Production or availability of the component product as FM approved
  • The continued use of acceptable quality control procedures
  • Satisfactory field experience
  • Compliance with the terms stipulated in the approval report
  • Satisfactory re-examination of production samples for continued conformity to requirements
  • Satisfactory Surveillance Audits conducted as part of FM Approvals product follow-up program

Specifiers, building owners, contractors and facility managers can be assured that Western Colloid’s roofing systems will provide the protection and continued performance they require for their buildings.
