RCS New Jersey Couple Receives New Roof

By Lauren White, RCS Reporter.

Restoration by Donation program gives back to families facing financial and health challenges.

Merryfield Construction Group, a family owned company for three generations, is dedicated to giving back to others.  On their website they share, “In hard times, we don’t turn our backs on members of our community.  We reach out and offer them a hand.” Through their “Merryfield Cares Campaign - Restoration by Donation” community outreach program, homeowners in Clayton, New Jersey received a new roof.

Frank and Wendy Errig were nominated by “...Jordan Howey, their son’s girlfriend of three years,” according to SNJ Today.  She described Frank and Wendy in her nomination letter as, “genuinely great and humble people who never ask for help.”  Even with financial and health challenges they still have “a smile on their faces,” Jordan wrote.

Starting three years go in 2016, the Restoration by Donation program is aimed to support families who are facing financial and health challenges.  Every year Merryfield Construction Group, a New Jersey based company, “...selects a deserving family to receive a new roof and rallies employees, community volunteers, and partners for the needed labor and supplies,” SNJ Today reported.  For the Errig roof, GAF supplied the roofing shingles, Robinson Waste provided the dumpster and Port-a-Pot, materials and delivery were donated by ABC Supply Company, and lunch for all participants was prepared by Rastelli Market Fresh.

George and Lewis Merryfield, owners of Merryfield Construction Group, and their employees, were thanked by freeholder Heather Simmons and Adam Taliaferro, Liaison Economic Development and Assemblyman.  In her interview with SNJ Today, Heather shared, “This act of kindness speaks volumes about the type of community we have in Gloucester County...We have many companies and local businesses who help out in various ways and that is what makes our community a special place.”

With the increasing number of families experiencing “...financial challenges from job losses, catastrophic medical bills, slashed retirement funds, and undervalued assets such as homes,” the Merryfield brothers are hoping to expand their program to help even more families.

“Merryfield is paying it forward and they are a fine example of what it is to be a great neighbor,” Heather expressed in her interview with SNJ Today.  Thanks to the generosity of Merryfield Construction Group and the donations from the other companies, the Errig’s will be able to live comfortably under their new roof.
