Navy Veteran and Her Mother Receive New Roof for Free

RCS Navy Veteran and Her Mother
June 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.

By Cass Jacoby, RCS Reporter.

Leslie Carroll has roof fixed after years of roof issues, giving her a renewed peace of mind.

Navy Veteran Leslie Carroll served active duty for two years stationed in Australia, Guam and Bermuda before civilian service. “I truly loved being in the military. I really, really enjoy every minute of it,” she told News10.

The Saratoga Springs, New York resident has had issues with her roof for years. She says several previous repair jobs didn't fix the problems. “Rain wasn't trickling in, it was like pouring in and so in some places I was just walking around with their umbrella,” she told News10.

As the caretaker of her elderly mother, Leslie knew she had to fix the roof, “I was extremely concerned about her safety.”

Fortunately, there is a brand-new roof over Leslie and her mom’s head, installed free of charge. “It’s like the most wonderful thing that’s happened to me in like ever,” Leslie says. “I’m so grateful just to know that my mom is going to be safe.”

Construction on her home was made possible through the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, a nationwide effort to build roofs for veterans and help out the heroes who served. Crews from Pinnacle Roofing replaced rafters and rotted plywood on her roof.

“Right now, it’s 28 sheets of plywood. It’s a lot, and monetarily, it’s the highest it’s been ever. Prices are crazy,” Director of Safety & Quality Control for Pinnacle Roofing, Dan Jordan told 10News. “Leslie is so appreciative and thankful, and it’s wonderful to be able to see a smile on her face after her having a rough time with a leaky roof.”

“You just can’t imagine how happy I am today, and really how grateful,” says Leslie.
