Cloud Syncing: Why It’s Important to your Business

Trimble Cloud Syncing

Every year we hear more and more about how cloud-based syncing is at the center of construction data.

For quite some time, the cloud has been impacting the way jobsite productivity has evolved by allowing data to be more easily accessible from a remote location; ultimately providing real-time updates. According to the IDC, worldwide spending on public cloud services and infrastructure is forecasted to reach $210 billion in 2019, a 23.8% increase from the previous year.

These trends are not slowing down anytime soon, and there’s a reason why – it’s important to your business, and the construction industry is no exception. In a 2017 survey held by the Associated General Contractors of America, 85% of construction contractors use or plan to use cloud-based solutions. That’s just five years after a 2012 Sage Construction and Real Estate survey found that only 16% believed cloud computing was important.

So why is there such a large increase in importance?

Construction Project Efficiency

When it comes to jobsite efficiencies, one of the most important yet overlooked aspects is communication. Jobsite operations rely so heavily on the sharing of documents, contracts, site instructions and more. For many construction companies, you’re managing multiple projects in many different locations and it becomes near impossible to stay up-to-date with the latest information. With cloud syncing, you can now be as efficient as possible while going from jobsite to jobsite, knowing you have the most accurate and up-to-date data to get the job done.

Real-Time Data

If you’ve ever worked a day in construction you know that things can change, very quickly. Before the cloud, the quickest way to check on a project was to physically stop in and talk with your team. But that poses a problem – a lot of things can change by the time you check on the jobsite and return back to your office. However, with the cloud, you now have real-time data updates from any location on any device at any time. Why does this matter? On one hand you have your field crew tracking jobsite activities and materials used, while your office staff might be updating meeting notes and change orders. When these updates are occurring simultaneously, it can be detrimental if they’re not communicated real-time. That’s where cloud syncing comes in. No matter where the location, or what device, you can ensure you’re operating off the most recent project information.

Although the cloud has been around for quite some time, there are a surprising amount of construction businesses who have not yet adopted the common technology solution. Next time you find yourself frustrated on a jobsite for not having up-to-date plans, it might be time for you to find a cloud-based solution.
