Beacon Honors Veteran Employees on Facebook

Beacon Veterans Blog
November 28, 2019 at 6:00 a.m.

In honor of Veterans Day, Beacon Roofing Supply asked employees to submit photos of coworkers who have served.

It’s well known that Beacon Roofing Supply believes in the contributions that veterans can bring to the company. We’ve written before about their Boots to Beacon program that focuses solely on hiring veterans.

Recognizing their service on Facebook, Beacon put out a call to team members to honor their co-workers who have served. The posted the following photos and information on social media:

Bill Chapman, 3rd Infantry Division, 1990-1994, Branch 822 Suwanee

Our driver James Chartier marches every year, 90 miles from Chicopee, Massachusetts to the state house in Boston. He does this to raise awareness and funds for homeless vets, and vets suffering from PTSD. It takes him 4 days to complete, he does 22 miles a day to signify the suicide rate amongst our country’s vets. This year was his fourth year Marching. He does it in full fatigues and pack, with the flags flying the whole way…rain or shine. He takes 4 personal days off to complete this, and recover before he comes back to work, so while we take our vacation days to sit on the beach…Jim does this. The first picture (the power lines are not near the forklift…it is just the angle the picture was taken at) is at the end of the street the branch is on. Every year we close the branch for 20 minutes to send him off the right way…with the support of his Beacon family. The second picture is 4 days later at the statehouse in Boston, (taken by our regional vice president who represented Beacon on the other end of the leg).

David Dees is a Marine Corps Veteran and fought during OIF. David served 3 combat tours fighting in Fallujah, Iraq. Served four years active duty from 2003 - 2007.

Honoring Jeff DeLaunay, Outside Sales for Beacon Roofing Supply in Ypsilanti. Jeff spent six years on Active Duty in the United States Coast Guard. The majority of his service was spent in Search and Rescue Operations where he was responsible for operational communications for approximately 60,000 square miles of coastline, inland and oceanic waters. Semper Paratus!

Fabian Gonzalez, Marine Corps 1990-1994, Gonzalez, Fabian D., Corporal USMC, Beacon #605

Army Vet Johnnie McNeal. Johnnie is on the left with the branch manager, Walter Fulmer, out of branch 447 in Columbia, SC. Johnnie served in the Army for three years.

Larry has been a driver at branch 376 since 2011. He is a veteran of the US Marines and in honor of his service we gifted him with an “American Grit” safety sweatshirt.

Dealers Choice Branch 822 would like to honor Ron Schau for his dedicated service as a B-52 Flight Engineer with the United States Air Force (1977-1983). Ron honorably served his country deployed multiple times throughout Europe, Australia, Greenland and the Middle East. Additionally, Ron celebrated his 24th year with Dealers Choice earlier this year! Thank you, Ron, for your hard work and dedication.
