Roof Repaired for 80-Year-Old Woman

RCS - Caught Doing Good
January 18, 2020 at 6:00 a.m.

By Lauren White, RCS Reporter.

With snow entering a Michigan resident’s home, a local company pitched in to raise funds to repair the hole.

Anyone with a roof over their heads knows the comfort of being warm, dry, and protected from the elements.  This is especially true during the winter when faced with snow, ice, wind, and freezing temperatures. However, when your roof is in disrepair, the comfort of your home can be compromised.  80-year-old Mae Troutman was all too familiar with this unpleasantness.

Having a hole in the roof of her home was making it uncomfortable for the Michigan resident to be inside.  With winter in full force and the damage to her roof, the temperature in Mae’s home continued to drop. Snow had even fallen into her home.

For two years, Mae had been attempting to get the hole in her roof repaired.  She even applied for city funding. Unfortunately, Mae was denied because her home is just outside the area eligible for assistance.  The owner of Tyler Home Improvement noticed Mae’s misfortune and took action by seeking donations to repair the roof once and for all.

In his interview with 3WWMT, Gabe Sheppard, Director of Operations said, “Well it’s Christmas season, we’ve been here so many times to tarp the roof, and like I [said], she’s a really nice lady, Mrs. Troutman, she needed a roof really bad.”

The money collected paid for Mae’s roof repair.  Generous workers from Tyler Home Improvement were able to complete the job in only a few days!  Mae told 3WWMT that she feels “so thankful and blessed.”

According to WKZO, “Management at the company said they were happy to help an area resident in need.”  The owner and workers at Tyler Home Improvement fully embraced the holiday season of giving.  Mae’s early Christmas gift is one that will continue to give. Now she can enjoy the benefits of having a warm and dry home without worrying about snow coming through her roof.
